FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 2, 2008 Brooklyn, NY - Feature documentary "Between The Folds" (US, GREEN FUSE FILMS) will have its world premiere on Friday, September 19 at 7:00pm at the Temecula International Film Festival. A second screening of the film is scheduled for Sunday, September 21 at 12:00pm. A Q&A with the filmmaker, and possibly members of the cast, will follow both screenings. "Between The Folds" explores the artistic and scientific creativity of ten fine artists and intrepid scientists who have abandoned careers to forge unconventional lives as modern-day paperfolders. Several of those featured have been profiled in The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Boston Globe, TIME Magazine, The LA Times, The Guardian UK, Smithsonian, Wired, WGBH, WNYC, and CBS, and they include notable scientists Dr. Erik Demaine of MIT, a recent MacArthur "Genius" Award recipient, and former NASA physicist Dr. Robert J. Lang; as well as internationally renowned artists Michael LaFosse, Eric Joisel, Paul Jackson, Chris Palmer and Vincent Floderer; and pioneering educators Tom Hull and Miri Golan. The film engages these exceptional minds as they converge on the unlikely medium of origami and demonstrate the innumerable ways creativity and expression come to bear as we struggle to understand and honor the world around us - as individuals, artists, scientists, collaborators, preservers, and simply curious beings. The film has also been named an official selection of the upcoming Savannah Film Festival and the New Hampshire Film Festival. In August, it screened at the Rhode Island International Film Festival with two sneak-preview engagements. In 2007, "Between The Folds" was selected by New York's Independent Feature Productions (IFP) as one of nine feature documentaries in the US for development and mentorship, chosen for its "artistic and independent vision, technical achievement and market potential".
